Sunday November the 17th saw our debut Gone Gravelling ride take place. Being the first of these rides we have ran, we were unsure what to expect and the day came around with apprehensive excitement. To say we were blown away by the support we received, would be an understatement. Near enough triple our expected, good weather dependent number of riders arrived at the door of the shop. And this was through thick fog and a grey, at best, day! Unreal! With our furthest traveled Gravelista being from Innerleithen, we also saw a solid South Wales contingent and a South West crew make the journey up, as well as all you Shropshire locals! This also included some representatives from Marin, WTB, Lean Greens, Crankbrothers and Salsa!
The ride was 50km with 1000m of vert', predominantly off-road, taking in the best gravel in the immediate vicinity. If the weather was as good as the pizza, the ride would have provided some of the best vistas south Shropshire has to offer. Whilst the views left a bit to be desired, the amount of fun we had did not! Perhaps the sub-optimal conditions brought the pack together, perhaps at times verging on type 2 fun! Ambers Woodfired Kitchen was a welcome sight for most, we are sure, with flames rocketing around the pizza oven we were in for a treat!
Thanks to everyone that made it what it was. To all that helped it run as smoothly as it could - holding gates and junctions - you guys are awesome! We've learnt a lot from Episode 1! With Episode 2 we want to make it even easier to be all inclusive and keep the fun rolling. We can't guarantee the weather will be better, however... So keep an eye for details of when it will be!
